HWY 14 is the back road that connects Albuquerque with Santa Fe. This route
was used by some of the earliest explorers and settlers who traveled through
the area. Also known as the Turquoise Trail, mining of turquoise is what put
these towns on the map: Cerrillos, Golden, Madrid. Today, these ghost towns
have been replaced with artists and spiritual seekers. On the
weekends, Madrid thrives as the tourists flock to the various galleries,
boutiques and eateries. While locals closer to Santa Fe enjoy a quiet meal
at San Marcos Cafe and Feed Store.
